Worshipping With Us

St Fagans Aberdare is an Anglican Parish proclaiming the Christian faith. We are part of the Church in Wales Diocese of Llandaff.  We offer a warm welcome to everyone at our services, especially newcomers and visitors.

If you worship or have previously worshipped with a different denomination and have received communion there, you are most welcome to receive Holy Communion in any of our three churches.

If not, then you are just as welcome, and we invite you to come forward to the altar for a blessing. Please ask someone at any of our churches if you are unsure about this.

'Eucharist' is our term for the service Jesus gave us at his Last Supper, where we take, bless and share bread and wine in accordance with his teaching. Other names for this service include 'Holy Communion', 'the Lord's Supper' and 'Mass'. Whatever you call it, you are welcome! We hold Eucharist services throughout the week, not just on Sundays.

Our Holy Eucharist services vary in style at each of our Parish Churches. 'Sung Eucharist' at St Fagan's and St Luke's means there are hymns and other parts of the service are sung; it lasts about an hour. 'Said Eucharist' at St James's contains no singing, is a simpler service, and lasts about half an hour.

On the first Sunday of each month at each of our churches, we hold an All Sorts Service, which is a more informal Eucharist service.

Morning and Evening Prayers are held in our churches throughout the week. They are shorter and simpler services without Holy Communion. They provide an ideal opportunity for quiet and thoughtful worship at the beginning or end of the working day.

Our Parish Prayer Group meets on the first Wednesday of every month for half an hour at 7.30pm, in one of the three churches. Members spend the time offering prayer requests which have been submitted by parishioners during the previous month, and also in offering any needs or concerns that occur to them. The group is open to all.

During Lent and Advent we usually run a weekly study group where we discuss some aspect of the Christian faith, and so seek to deepen our knowledge and strengthen our faith. The dates, times and venues of these groups will be announced nearer the time – please watch the website for details!

For regular service times, please visit the Service Times page. If you have any questions about our services or discussion groups, please get in touch by calling the Parish Office on 01685 877900 or emailing [email protected].
