Who can get married in your churches?
You can get married in the churches of St Fagan, St Luke or St James if one of you lives in the Cynon n Uchaf Ministry Area (Trecynon, Cwmdare, Llwydcoed, Aberdare town, Hirwaun or Penywaun) or if you can demonstrate one of the following connections with the area. Don't worry if you can show more than one connection; only one is required!
The connections are:
-
That one of you has at any time lived in the Ministry Area for a period of at least 6 months; or was baptised in our churches; or was prepared for confirmation in our churches; or has at any time regularly gone to normal services in our churches for a period of at least 6 months;
-
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born has lived in the Ministry Area for a period of at least 6 months; or has regularly gone to normal services in our churches for a period of at least 6 months;
-
That one of your parents or grandparents was married in one of our churches
In all cases involving church services - i.e. going to normal church services, baptism, confirmation or marriage - this applies only to Church of Wales or England services.
How much will it cost?
The cost of a wedding in our churches consists of a basic fee, plus various additions depending on what you would like in your service. A wedding a St Fagan’s will cost up to £575 made up as follows - vicar's fee £215; Church fee £290; verger's fee £20; and £50 for the organist. Obviously the last sum is not payable if no organist is required.
One of us has been married before. Is that a problem?
Not necessarily. In principle, we are happy to marry people in church who have been married before. However, before we can do this we need to go through the Church in Wales's procedures for such cases. We will be able to explain more when you phone us to enquire about making a booking.
What can we have in the service by way of music, readings, etc?
Father Richard Green will be able to help you choose the readings, prayers and music that you would like in your service.
How many people can each church seat?
Our three churches vary in size and can suit large scale weddings to more intimate services. St Fagan seats about 350 people, but if you are looking for a more intimate ceremony then why not consider St Luke (100 people), or St James (65).
How do we go about booking our wedding?
In the first instance, please call our Office on 01685 877900 or email parishofficestfagans@btconnect.com to discuss the date you have in mind.
