BAPTISM

In baptism, we thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love. Through prayer, anointing with oil, and the pouring of water over the head, God's love and the power of his Holy Spirit are given to the newly baptised, who enters into a closer relationship with Jesus.

Christian baptism can be traced back to Jesus' own baptism in the River Jordan, and his command to his followers to baptise new followers.

Everyone has the right to be baptised in the parish church of the parish where they live, regardless of whether they are a regular churchgoer or not. If you live in the Parish of St Fagan's Aberdare (Trecynon, Llwydcoed or Cwmdare), you can have your child baptised (or christened), or be baptised yourself, in any one of our three churches.

Baptisms normally take place on a Sunday at 12.45pm in each church, although sometimes they happen during the main Sunday Parish Eucharist.

To discuss booking a baptism, please attend a Sunday morning service in the church where you would like to have the baptism - see the Service Times page. After the service, speak to Fr Richard and he will explain the procedure for organising the service. This usually involves attending church for at least two or three Sundays, watching a video, and attending a meeting with Fr Richard.

To watch the First Steps video on YouTube, click on the button below. Before you watch the video you'll need to download and print out the questionnaire, again by clicking the link below.

There is no charge for a baptism, but we ask that the family make a donation to the church concerned.

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation is an occasion for people who have been baptised as infants to affirm that faith for themselves. Through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop, the Church also asks God to give those being confirmed power, through the Holy Spirit, to live the life of discipleship. Alternatively, teenagers and adults who have never been baptised and who wish to make a commitment to the Christian faith are normally baptised and confirmed at the

same time.

We hold one confirmation service each year, which is conducted by the Bishop of Llandaff. Confirmation is preceded by a number of weeks of preparation. If you are interested in being confirmed, please call Father Richard Green on 01685 881435 or email vicar.stfagans@btconnect.com.

Please note there are restrictions in place in terms of weddings, baptisms and funerals taking place in church, in order to limit to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). For more information, please contact the Vicar.
